Breaking News: Obama Is a Ninja
Alright, it’s a little ridiculous that CNBC thought this takes enough priority over the post-election havoc in Iran to title it “Breaking News” – but this is pretty badass, because we all know how difficult it can be to swat those really big flies – they’re stealthy little sons of bitches. Enjoy.
Analog Showcase and Show + Tell, June 14, 4-6 pm at Lucky Gallery
Lucky Gallery and Dijital Fix, located in Williamsburg, will be hosting anAnalog Showcase and Show + Tell, on June 14, from 4-6 pm.
David Auerbach, owner of Dijital Fix, will be demonstrating a selection of cameras (many of the cameras are made by Lomography) and accessories – such as the Diana, Holga, LC-A+, Fisheye, and even a Lubitel, all available at his store in Williamsburg. Dijital Fix combines fashion, design, and electronics in one environment.
This event is part of a series of Sunday events called Lucky Sundays, hosted by Lucky Gallery. Every artist that works with Lucky Gallery participates, and food and drink are provided. Designer Anything

“Designer” is a word that is used rather commonly these days. Hell, we use it in our own tagline. But it really gets interesting when you start talking about products for which there really are no need for designer items. Designer shoes, yeah. Designer headphones, sure. Designer bricks? Well, yeah. Unless your stockbroker-turned-lumberjack friend is in need of a birthday present (for someone who had everything), I don’t know who exactly needs a “designer axe”. I’d be scared to use it for anything but chopping up really attractive people that wronged me in my basement, but hey, to each his own! Or maybe I’m just really, really creepy and have a hard time seeing an axe that comes in a fancy case being used for anything else…

With Fathers’ Day around the corner, could there possibly be a better time to get your dear old daddio a fancy slaughtering device? I think not…

The StudioDesk from Bluelounge
If you’ve ever tried searching for the perfect desk, you may understand how frustrating it can be. Not only are there very few desks designed to look great (unless you spend lots of money on designer brands), but very few desks in general seem to be designed for the modern needs of todays life. Namely, the fact that the vast majority of us no longer use desktop computers.
While a simple desk may do for most people, you’re left with all sorts of cable mess running to your printer, power strip, scanner, speakers, etc… Bluelounge has designed the first desk to solve all of the problems I’ve ever had with desks. To solve these problems myself, I’ve drilled holes in desks and made compartments underneath the tabletop. Essentially, this design takes that idea and makes a highly polished version of my “table with a hole in it” and truly becomes a gorgeous multi-function piece of first-rate furniture. Now, there’s a place where you can put your laptop away when you’re not using it, or any of your peripherals, and looks great to boot.
All peripherals and excess cables are hidden just under the sliding desktop surface. The storage compartment is therefore conveniently accessed from above. An elongated slot across the width of the desktop allows the necessary peripheral & power cables to enter/exit at any point, thereby keeping the desktop clear of clutter.
A traditional table with a modern twist, this quality built timeless design features solid mahogany legs and details. White laminate is used for the desktop surfaces and storage spaces for durability. It comes in one flat box, and only the legs need to be attached. A removable faux leather mat covering the sliding portion of the desktop is incuded. Available for pre-order now with free shipping (pre-orders only)! Ships in late June.
The OP-1 from Teenage Engineering

Teenage Engineering, a rather mystical company that seems to have some sort of Japanese origins, is now officially showing their OP-1 synthesizer. It was last demo’d in Frankfurt in April. Their website still shows the system as in “beta” but we can only hope this little wonder gets released soon…the possibilities look endless. If (hopefully!) they release it at a reasonable price point, I can see this thing taking stage center in the synthesizer/controller/sampler arena, because the interface looks truly amazing and intuitive, unlike anything I’ve seen before. Also, it’s tiny! Check out the video to see the “spy shots” of the interface in action, and the Frankfurt interview showing the finished product on display. As soon as this puppy is released, look for it here, we’ll definitely stock it if they’ll let us!
Vitamin Beard

I respect a man with a good beard. Photographer Matt Rainwaters had the amazing opportunity to go to the World Beard & Moustache Championships, and document all the crazy, impressive beards that travelled from all around the world for the biennial beard-off – this year, held in Anchorage, Alaska.
